Live Johnson, born Shawn Johnson hails from Queens, NY where early on his influence on music dwelled upon him as an outlet to stay away from the allure of the streets. Some of his interests in music included writing poetry, songs, rhymes and producing beats as a way for Live to express himself. His earlier influences in music were from his father, who had played the Viola and was an avid collector of vinyl music such as the 70’s soul and the 80’s disco. Other genre’s that influenced Live was Hip-Hop, R&B, Neo Soul, Rock & Gospel but his favorite artist that held a very huge impression on him was Nas.
Live feels that “Without music my life would be empty” because of the many regrets from his past along with the heavy burdens of life. Also he adds that “I bring realness and authenticity to the game, something that is missing in today’s hip-hop music.” “People forget to be vulnerable and they wind up being something they’re not.” “I rather would be an outcast than to fit in foolishness.”
Since his return in the latter half of 2017 and start of 2018 Live Johnson has interviewed alongside DJ Self, had been featured on Thisis50 , Voicless Music, Darkside Radio and more . His latest album Living Legend released on June 8th is the transformation as he transformed from the underdog of the industry to the powerhouse that he is now. He looks to take a stance on controversial topics that others have been scared to touch upon while looking to work for great causes. His anthem Voiceless off Living Legend featuring Nikki Owens and Scorpio P. gives light to those that have been put to silence by today’s society.
Live Johnson witty wordplay and aggressive delivery is often labeled as “Straight forward with no chaser” along with his sensitive way of expressing his life woes makes him stand out from the rest that rather settle for the commercial norm. With records like “I Ain't Wit' It”, “Feel No Way”, “Living Legend”, and “Bootleg Industry” Live plans on taking over the industry with aggressive hip-hop content that can be commercially accepted.
